I do have an option for you but unfortunately, we would not have access to the wiring diagram for a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500. In order to find the cold side of the brake pedal which is the wire that will need to be spliced into to install a brake controller, you would need to test each wire with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 for the wire that only receives power while the pedal is depressed. Once you find this wire you can use a quick splice connector like part # SWC501746-1 to avoid completely severing the wire.
Please keep in mind that if your Ram came with a factory 7-way then you will not need to splice into the vehicle's wiring as there is a plug-in harness available for the following brake controllers:
Curt - part # C51332
Tekonsha - part # 3020-P
Hayes - part # HA81782-HBC
Hopkins - part # HM47755
