Question:

I am on my second wiring adapter for my 2005 Jeep Liberty. This time I got the more expensive one that takes power from the battery but after about a month it seems to be blown too. No power at the 4-prong plug and it is blowing turn signal fuses. I disconnected the adapter harness and now my turn signals are working. My question is: Why are the converters blowing? I wasnt even towing a trailer. I will need another adapter but maybe another type?

The turn signal fuse blowing will be either due to a bad ground wire connection on your turn signals or a short in the wire. I don't believe that the wiring harness would cause that issue, but you may want to check the ground wire on that to make sure you have a clean bare metal to metal connection there as well.

I recommend unplugging your # 118524 harness from behind that tail light and seeing if that fuse blows without the connection. If so, then you know the short is on the vehicle wiring and not connected in any way to the harness. It sounds like there is an overdraw of power that is blowing that fuse and the harness is powered by the battery, so it is likely the vehicle wiring. You can when the wiring for issue using circuit tester # PTW2993 to find a short and replace the wiring as needed.

If everything works fine in your Jeep when the harness is unplugged, then there is an internal issue with the harness and it will need to be replaced. It is covered under warranty for 1 year from purchase.

The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118524 is the best harness for your vehicle and in some way has done exactly what it was designed to do. The Modulite has gone bad, but it has protected your vehicle electronics in a way that could have been very bad if you didn't have the powered ModuLite. I reached out to my contact at Tekonsha for some help in explaining and there has at some point been an overdraw on the ModuLite that damaged it and then in turn it started blowing fuses even when the trailer wasn't connected. The bad news is the harness needs replaced. The good news is it has a 1 year warranty, so if it within the year, it will be covered. To work on solving the issue so it doesn't continue to be an issue, we need to determine what has been overloading the ModuLite. It is likely that there is a ground wire issue on your trailer or too many lights on your trailer that is overdrawing the harness.
