Question:

My wife and I just purchased a 2018 Double Bed Tacoma Off-Road short bed. We have two 12foot Wilderness kayaks that we want to load on top of the tacoma. The width of the kayaks at their widest is 26inch around their cockpit. Our tacoma does not have the factory roof rack. The roof measures 52foot wide from where the top of doors meet the roof and 46inch wide is the part of roof between the black weather strips covering roof rack channels. We need the best advice as to what roof rack system and kayak carriers would do the trick. We will be buying a tonneau cover so we will not be able to use a ladder rack system unless there is one that can be used with a tonneau cover for the Tacoma. I would love to carry both kayaks sitting on their bottoms using the Yakima sweet roll carriers which is unlikely unless you think of a way for me to do so. Your advice is appreciated?

You'd need a roof rack confirmed to fit your 2018 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab with longer crossbars like the Yakima Corebar Rack part numbers # Y00422, # Y28TR, # Y06145, and # Y06128 which has 60 inch long crossbars.

You could easily use a SweetRoll # Y04074 for each of your kayaks then with this rack.

This leaves your truck bed open for the tonneau cover and would work well.
