A Frame Surge Brake Recommendation for Replacing Atwood Brake Actuator

Published 02/22/2018

Question:

I have an old trailer with a welded on Atwood surge brake coupler. Since parts are scarce for this surge brake system, I was wondering about replacing it. I have attached photos. I was wondering if an A-frame surge coupler like would work if I cut off the current coupler? What measurements do I need to take on my current trailer to ensure fit? Are there any bolt-on A-frame surge brake couplers? I could only find weld on.

Thanks for the picture of your actuator that you are wanting to replace. The Demco Hydraulic Actuator part # DM8609502 would be a great option as it is designed to fit A-frames like yours. It has an 8k capacity, designed for a 2 inch hitch ball, and is designed for drum brakes.
