Question:

I have a 2015 Toyota Tacoma 4.0L and I am interested in installing a transmission cooler on it. I dont want to connect it in series with the radiator transmission cooler. I want to have the tranmission oil going only to the new cooler and not through the radiator to eliminate the chance of coolant contamination of the transmission. Since I would be rerouting the tubes so the fluid doesnt flow through the radiator, I would like to know how large of a transmission cooler Id need to handle the cooling requirements of my transmission? Can you guys give me some guidance on this?

It is not recommend to bypass the factory transmission cooler in the radiator when installing an auxiliary transmission cooler but I certainly understand your concern of fluid contamination as this would be very costly to repair. Since you are getting rid of the factory transmission cooler in the radiator you are going to want to use a fairly large stacked cooler as stacked coolers are the most efficient type.

I recommend using the Derale 40-Row High-Performance Stacked-Plate Cooler part # D54012 as this cooler would without a doubt be able to handle the vehicle's transmission cooling needs. As long as you have 13" wide x 13-15/16" tall x 2" deep of space to mount the cooler in front of your radiator/condenser behind your grille then this cooler will work well for you.

In order to adapt the -10 AN fitting on the cooler to accept a 3/8" hose you will need to use both part # D59006 and part # D98200.
