Troubleshooting Trailer Lights Not Working and Brake Controller Not Recognizing Connection

Question:
I have a 71 nomad that when I plug into my truck none of the lights work. I dont have the camper battery hooked up to since I need a new one, could that be part of problem of why they dont turn on? Also brake control doesn't have connection light

The trailer brake indicator light should work on your truck without a trailer battery plugged in. Your trailer wiring should not have any connection to your trailer battery as it draws power from your vehicle for those functions. I've attached an article on trailer wiring and brake controller wiring to assist. I recommend checking your vehicle fuses and then using a tester like # PTW2993 to check each function.
The your electric brake controller connection indicator light should be on when your trailer is connected and causes a draw on that brake output wire in the 5 o'clock pin location.
