Question:
Considering a rooftop basket rack for my 2017 Ford Escape. Will be used for luggage and coolers, but would like to occasionally also carry two bikes. Which basket would fit this situation the best?

One of the most flexible baskets is the Yakima Load Warrior, part # Y07070, which is designed with the application of bike racks on occasion in mind. this basket's front and rear crossbars act like a set of Yakima RoundBars and are able to accept any bike or kayak rack that is compatible with 32 inch crossbar spread. This lets you mount and dismount the bike racks as needed for your next trip.
You can get a longer variant of the basket with an adjustable load bar as part # Y07070-74. This will give you the ability to load the front of the basket with the bikes and the rear with coolers or other gear.
For a bike rack, the Load Warrior is designed for racks with a 32 inch crossbar spread without the extension. With the extension, you can adjust the bar to fit your rack. In either case, the rack will need to be compatible with Round Bars.
I recommend Yakima's FrontLoader, part # Y02103 as a great, fully featured rack. This is compatible with kids bikes, and includes integrated cable and rack locks. At 15 pounds, it is also extremely light and easy to get on and off the roof.
Since you'll be getting two, you may want to key the racks alike so you spend less time looking for keys. You can key alike both racks with part # Y07204 which will include four locks, two keys and the change key to make the racks operate with the same key.
If you don't already have a roof rack for your vehicle, you'll need to add one to equip the LoadWarrior.
If your 2017 Ford Escape has raised, factory side rails, then I recommend the Yakima JetStream kit, consisting of:
50" JetStream Crossbars, part # Y00425
TimberLine Towers, part # Y33TR
The Yakima JetStream kit adds a sleek, factory style rack to your vehicle and adds very little height, letting you load easier onto the LoadWarrior when its equipped with the bike racks.
If your 2017 Ford Escape has a naked roof, with no flush rails, then I recommend the Yakima Q-Tower kit, consisting of:
Yakima RoundBar, 58 Inches, part # Y00409
Yakima BaseLine Towers, part # Y28TR
Yakima RoundBar SL Adapter, part # Y03536
Yakima BaseClips, part # Y06190 and part # Y06191
I've included video reviews of all of these parts so you can get an idea of their features and performance and make the best choices for your vehicle and bikes.
