Question:

I like the Malone roof rack for my Land Cruiser, 97. But I dont like the Malone basket. Will the Surco Safari fit on the Malone rack? Do they both fit my car?

The Surco Safari roof rack will fit to your vehicle and the Malone Roof Rack, part # MPG202. You have a couple of options with mounting the basket.

The Surco Safari rack I recommend for your vehicle is the 50 x 60 variant, part # SPS5060-1101. This includes an additional kit that will mount to your raised factory rails.

This kit includes four clamps that will mount the basket directly to your factory rails that run front to back without actually needing a roof rack. If you're planning on just using the basket and not the rails, I'd recommend skipping the roof rack then.

If you want additional stability, or have plans for the roof rack, then you can use part # SPT400 to mount the basket more securely to your roof rack. Optionally, part # SPS5060-T400 will mount directly to the roof rack, rather than the rails.

I've included a video review of the basket that shows installation onto a set of Thule square bars that are similar to the Malone kit you looked at.
