Raising the Height of a Horse Trailer without Switching Tire Sizes

The 225/75-15 trailer tire is the largest 15 inch tire available. To go to a taller tire you would need to go to a 16 inch which would mean also replacing the wheels. The problem with going to a larger tire is that there may not be enough clearance above the tire to allow for the travel of the suspension. Also a 16 inch trailer tire will be wider than a 15 so you would also need enough space between the inner sidewall and the trailer frame.

There is another way to raise the height of the trailer. You may be able to use an over/under conversion kit if:

The trailer leaf spring stack is currently mounted under the axles
The trailer uses double-eye springs
And the trailer has 2-3/8 inch or 3 inch diameter round axles

For a 2-3/8 inch round axle use # K71-384-00 and for a 3 inch diameter axle use # K71-385-00.

If you cannot use an over/under conversion kit then the only other way to raise the height of the trailer is to have the old suspension hangers cut off and new, taller ones welded on by a qualified professional welder. I have included a link to the hanger main page for you.

Or if the only reason for wanting to raise the trailer height is because it sits nose high at the front then you would just need a ball mount with the right amount of drop to tow the trailer level.
