I reached out to my Tech contact at Curt and confirmed that the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13266 will fit your front wheel drive model 2016 Volvo XC70 and this will be a great hitch for you.

For your vehicle wiring if you will be towing or using a lighted accessory, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56386. This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your Volvo XC70's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery. I've attached an article to assist with routing this power wire.

For a ball mount, I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 3" Drop, 3-1/2" Rise - 7.5K - Black, # BWTS10035B. This will give you a 2 inch and 1-7/8 inch hitch ball as well as give you adjustability to tow a trailer level by offering the 1 inch height adjustments between a 3 inch drop and 3-1/2 inch rise. This ball mount also offers the ability to hide the ball on the backside when not in use to give you a clean look and save your shins when loading cargo in the rear hatch.

You may also want to consider a locking hitch pin like # BX8858 to secure your equipment.

If you use this hitch receiver for an accessory, Curt recommends the stabilization strap # 18050.
