Thank you for your reply. The electrical connector that you showed in reply to my initial tow bar question looks different. Can you please tell me what bracket I need to secure the plug fitted to my VW? Thank you in advance.

For your 2012 VW Tiguan the # e98906 is the etrailer hitch that fits.

To mount the 4-way you'd need a bracket like the part # 18144 which attaches to the bottom of the rear bumper.

That's a connector designed for a 7-way. What you'd need with that is the # HM40975. This is a 7 and 4-way trailer wiring connector that comes with a mounting bracket that you can attach to the bottom of your vehicle bumper.
