How to Make Coiled 6-Way to 4-Way Adapter

Question:

HI, I was speaking to Natalie earlier today to figure out an 8 foot long solution for our 4-flat connection on our 2009 Honda CRV an the 6 pole round connection on our 2002 Holiday Rambler. She suggested that we purchase this part Hopkins Endurance 6-Way Trailer Connector - Trailer End - Ergonomic Design - w/ Holder - HM48440, along with the RoadMaster 4-Wire Flexo-Coil Cord Item # RM-1064-B and the Quick Fix TM 4 Pole Flat Car and Trailer Ends Item # 48195 to make what we need. Questions: 1 I notice that this part HM48440 has metal circles around all 6 holes, whereas a Pollak 12-717 6 Way Round To 4 Way Flat Adapter only has metal circles around 4 holes. Are you sure that it will work with wiring only 4 wires from the RoadMaster 4-Wire Flexo-Coil Cord to HM48440 to this part... and the other end to the Quick Fix TM 4 Pole Flat Car and Trailer Ends Item # 48195 and that this is the best way to go? 2 Would it be a better option to get a 6 round to 6 round Hopkins Heavy-Duty Trailer Coiled Extension - 6-Pole Round - with Nite-Glow Item # HM47055 Or RoadMaster 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Kit Item # RM-146 ?? and Quick Fix TM 4 Pole Flat Car and Trailer Ends Item # 48195, cut off one of the 6 round connectors and attach the appropriate 4-flat from the Quick Fix TM 4 Pole Flat Car and Trailer Ends Item # 48195 and have the 2 extra wires on the 4-flat end tied-off with electrical tape? If so, which of the Coils should we get? 3 Or.., would be be better to get the RoadMaster 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Cord Item # RM-1046-R, the Hopkins Endurance 6-Way Trailer Connector - Trailer End - Ergonomic Design - w/ Holder - HM48440, and the Quick Fix TM 4 Pole Flat Car and Trailer Ends Item # 48195 and have the 2 extra wires on the 4-flat end tied-off with electrical tape? Help! Our eyes are spinning on what to do..... We want to do what is best and the most cost effective if possible. Thank you!

I personally don't like using adapters if I don't have to so what I would do is use the part # RM-1064-B for the coiled section, the part # HM48440 for the 6-way section and then for the 4-way use the # HM48030 wired up correctly and you'd have a coiled 6-way to 4-way adapter without using any adapters that would work very well.

Question:

I understand..., but am still confused..... 1) If you put only 4 wires into the 6 pole part you recommended (that has the 6 metal circles vs 4 -HM48440 )..., will it work with only 4 wires in it? 2) If so, what part do we need for the 4-flat end (for the solution you recommended).., as we already have the 4-flat socket (HM48030) on our CRV?

Yes, each of the metal circles represents one wire/circuit. So a 6-way with 4 active circuits would work well with 4-way wiring.

If you have the HM48030 installed on your CR-V the 4-way that would attach to it would be the part # HM48110.
