Can you remove the mirror extenders for Toyota Sequoia 2008 when you are not using them?

Yes, the CIPA Custom Towing Mirror, # CM11301, is removable for times when you are not towing. If you look at the last picture on the product page, you will see a soft protective strip, a molded plastic piece, and a knob.
The strip protects the vehicle factory mirror and the molded plastic piece sits on that, on the inside of the towing mirror housing. The knob screws in through the back and as you tighten it, it applies pressure to the molded plastic, holding the entire mirror tight against the factory mirror.
When you are ready to remove the mirror, you just unscrew the knob and slide the mirror off. The matching passenger side mirror is # CM11302. I have included a video that shows the installation of this type of mirror. It is a different vehicle/mirror combination but installation will be very similar on your vehicle.
