Recommended 235/80/16 Size Tire for Horse Trailer

Question:

I have a 4 horse LQ trailer GVWR 16,710# currently has st235/80r16 load range e tires on it. It gets pulled weekly and I do travel a lot of miles in the hot south. My tires are not lasting I have blew 4 in the last 6 months. I want to replace them all but what tires are best and should I get a bigger wheel?

Our most popular tires that are sized at 235/80/16 are the Castle Rock. If you are needing a wheel that has an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern you will want part # LHACK133 but for a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern you will want part # TA39VR. These are Load Range E tires which means that they have a max load capacity of 3,520 lbs at 80 psi. These tires also have a max speed rating of 81 (speed rating M).

The most common reason as to why people have blowouts is due to the tire overheating. This can be caused by the tire not having the correct tire pressure and/or the tire being overloaded. You will want to make sure that you are staying within these parameters when using these tires. If you do then you should be just fine. Keep in mind that if you have a tandem axle trailer that means your combined tire weight capacity will be 14,080 lbs. You will be limited by this weight capacity instead of your trailer's capacity of 16,710 lbs. If you have a triple axle trailer then you will be just fine going to the capacity of 16,710 lbs.
