Question:

In one of your replys related to powering the jack, it was suggested that the customer take power from the 7 pin connector the power clip rather than the breakaway small battery. How do you do this if the 7 pin plug is connected to the tow vehicle? Every one I talk too or e-mail recommends using a separate deep cycle battery for the power. Please advise cause Im confused.

Ideally you would wire the Bulldog Powered-Drive Trailer Jack, part # BD500200, to a separate battery. Normally trailers with powered jacks have an auxiliary battery that is used to power accessories. If there is not a separate battery on your trailer, you could power the jack from the 12 volt power source in your 7-pin trailer connector..

Here is how you would wire it to your 7-pin connector:

On the 7-pin connector that is on your tow vehicle there should be a red or black wire that is a 12 volt auxiliary power source, this is usually the 2 o-clock position as you face the opening of the connector. I would recommend testing the port with a voltage tester, part # PTW2993, for voltage there.

Now on the corresponding port of your trailer connector you will want to run wire to the positive wire on the # BD500185. From here, you will ground the other wire from the jack to a clean surface on the frame of your trailer and the jack will operate.
