Tailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2007 Nissan Murano to Tow a Rental Trailer

Rental places like Uhaul require that your 2007 Nissan Murano has a trailer hitch rated for the weight of the trailer, a trailer wiring harness to activate the trailer lights, and accessories such as a ball mount and ball. But if the trailer has surge brakes or electric brakes you will need some additional equipment such as a brake controller and 5- or 7-Way trailer connector.

Starting with a trailer hitch you can use Curt hitch # 13571. It is rated for 350 pounds tongue weight and 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight capacity. But you will also want to check the vehicle owner's manual for the towing capacity of the vehicle. Whichever is lower, the hitch or the vehicle, is the capacity you will go by.

I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

To add a 4-Way flat connector to the rear of the vehicle you can use # C49KR. The 4-Way trailer connector controls the light functions on the trailer. If the trailer has surge brakes (Uhaul trailers don't normally have electric brakes) that has an electric reverse lockout (to keep the brakes from activating when you back up the trailer) then you will also need 4- to 5-Way adapter # 20036 to activate the electric lockout.
