Question:
Is this hitch a fit for this vehicle, I am only concerned about the hitch coming in contact with the exhaust, will this hitch avoid this problem.

The Curt hitch # C11000 is designed to fit around the exhaust without an issue however, the exhaust system isn't always in the exact same place from one car to the next. Even within the exact same model and year. I've linked a help article on correcting the rattling issue on any hitch if you have a problem.
I recommend this Curt hitch # C11000 for your GTI, it is a confirmed fit. You will also need the support strap # 18050 if you're carrying a non-trailer load like a bike rack or cargo carrier, this is required by Curt as an extra safety precaution.
