Based on the measurements provided in your question, it sounds like your 1976 Chevrolet C10 has an 8 foot bed.
For a ladder rack on your truck, I recommend looking at the Erickson Truck Bed Ladder Rack # EM07705. This is sturdy but lightweight aluminum rack that will securely clamp onto your truck bed side rails and allow you to transport ladders, lumber and other equipment. The rack also includes load stops that will keep your cargo in place. It has a 800 pound weight capacity and crossbar dimensions of 66-5/8 inches long x 3-1/4 inches wide x 1-1/2 inches tall.
I have attached a video demonstration of this product for you to check out. I have also provided a link that will take you to our available selection of ladder racks that are designed to fit the 8 foot bed on your Chevrolet C10 that you can look through.
