When OEM Wheels Have Offset Can Replacement Wheels Without Offset Work?

Updated 04/27/2017 | Published 04/26/2017

Question:

Will these fit on a Master Tow Dolly 80THD. This is the current size on the dolly. It appears that the factory wheels have a 1/4inch offset? Provider ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 15inch Silver Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D Item # A225R645SM

Helpful Expert Reply:

The Provider ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire and Wheel # A225R645WM most likely will not fit because it is a larger wheel than comes with your Master Tow Dolly. From what I can find, the dolly comes with ST205/75D14 tires, so the Westlake ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 14" Silver Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # 274-000053 will be a more viable option and has a much better warranty.

Due to the offset you mentioned, you would need to measure from the face of the hub a little over 4-1/4 inches in either direction to make sure the wheels and tire combination will have enough clearance from your tow dolly frame and fenders to function. You don't need much clearance, between the components, but you do want to make sure that they will not rub. These wheels have an outer diameter of 26.1 inches so you will want to check the clearance at that height.
