Recommendation for a Roof Rack on a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta That Will Carry Bikes and Kayaks

My wife an I want to get a rack kit that we can haul kayaks and/or bikes on our stock 2007 Volkswagen Jetta no bells and whistles on our car. Our care does not have factory rails installed. I know that there are a number of no-drill towers that can be installed to accomplish this. My concern is that a no-drill kit that does not hook onto pre-existing rails may not be sturdy enough to hold up if we get a high cross wind. We live in Michigan, so cross winds are not uncommon. Do you have any recommendations for kits that might suit our purposes?

I have a solution for your 2007 Volkswagen Jetta. The Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars, # RRVA126B, Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs, # RRRLKVA, and Custom DK Fit Kit # DK055 will fit and work with rack accessories that will fit your vehicle.
The Rhino-Rack uses mounting clamps that will sit up under the door frame edge. The mounting clamps are tighten down with an Allen key wrench to secure the roof rack to the vehicle. The mount is very secure and tight. We have never heard from any of our customers that have purchased this item of having any issue of the rack coming off after it has been correctly installed.
For a roof mounted bike rack, I recommend the Rhino-Rack Hybrid Roof Bike Rack, # RRRBC050. This rack will mount to the aero bar design of the Rhino-Rack roof rack and can carry a max weight of 45 lbs. The bike rack will fit bikes with tires as wide a 2.7 inches and 20 - 29 inch wheels.
