Engine Oil and Transmission Fluid Temperature Cooler Recommendation for 2016 Ram 1500
Published 03/30/2017 >
Question:
Hi, I have a 2016 Ram 1500 4X4 crew cab with the 5.7 eng. and tow a 28foot travel trailer. While towing in the summer engine and trans temps run higher then I think they should. Trans is up around 250 and the eng temp is up around 265. The truck now has about 8k miles on it and I plan to keep it for a while. I use Mobile 1 for the engine oil. Now, I am looking at fan operated coolers for the engine and a non-fan class V 20”X10” trans cooler, but really don’t know what is best for my needs. The engine filter relocation kit seems to be a plus. As you know space is tight. Would you have a recommendation/s for the best cooler/s and installations/s. Regards

Since you are looking for an engine oil cooler and a transmission cooler I would recommend a Derale Combination Transmission and Engine Oil Cooler # D15902. You will be able to route both your transmission fluid and engine oil through this unit to keep both your engine oil and transmission fluid cool. The multiple thread adapter the kit comes with is compatible with your 2016 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 liter Hemi.
I attached an FAQ on transmission coolers and engine oil coolers as well as a video of a transmission cooler being installed for you to check out.
