We do offer a couple of Class I trailer hitches that are confirmed to fit your 2005 Volkswagen Passat Wagon.
I recommend the Curt Class I Receiver Hitch # C11054 because of its easier installation process. This 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch receiver has a 200 pound tongue weight capacity and a 2,000 pound towing weight capacity. I also recommend checking your vehicle's capacities as listed in the owner's manual, as this will likely be the limiting factor. Curt does state that all non-trailer loads (bike racks, cargo carriers) should be supported with stabilizing straps like # 18050 to keep the hitch under warranty.
I have attached an installation video on your vehicle for you to check out.
Since you plan on towing, you can use the Curt Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light w Converter Hardware Kit # C59496. This will allow you to install a 4-way trailer connecter in your vehicle to power the trailer's signal lights. I have included the installation details for your review.
For a ball mount, I recommend the Curt Drawbar # C45521 with a 2-5/8 inch Rise or 3-1/4 inch Drop. I have also attached a link that will take you to our ball mount selection as well as a helpful article that explains how to choose the right one for your setup.
