I have a couple of different options for you to use with your 2010 Ford Explorer that will give you the 8 inch drop that you are looking for and will not decrease the tongue weight.
For a shank that will get the job done we have the Curt Ball Mount # C45090 which has a 6 inch Rise and the 8 inch Drop that you are looking for. This ball mount will fit with a 2 inch hitch receiver and is 11-1/2 inches long. Using it in the Drop position gives it a Gross Towing Weight of 5,000 lbs and a Tongue Weight capacity of 500 lbs.
For a ball mount that you can get a little more out of we offer the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSC8 which has a 6-3/4 inch Rise and the 8 inch Drop that you are looking for. This ball mount also fits 2 inch hitch receivers. This ball mount has a Gross Towing Weight of 10,000 lbs and a Tongue Weight capacity of 2,000 lbs.
You can use the 2 inch Hitch Ball # 63845 with either of these ball mounts and the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98882 to secure your ball mount to your trailer hitch.
