The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Van is the Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader, part # 41533. This is a Class lll trailer hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening. This is designed to work with vans that have a standard bumper. There is no drilling required when installing the hitch. It uses existing holes in the vehicle frame.
If you have a factory step bumper on your van the trailer hitch you can use is part # 75140. This is also a Class lll hitch with a 2-inch receiver.
Installation is not really tough as long as you have pretty easy access to the underside of the van. You will need a torque wrench when installing the hitch. If you do not have one I recommend part # ALL944001.
If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
If you do not have a trailer connector at the rear of your van I recommend part # 18252. This is a hardwire installation and the kit comes with a circuit tester to help you identify the wires you need to use.
