Is a Yakima Skybox 16 considered too big to put on a 2017 Honda Pilot?

There are a few fit concerns when it comes to roof cargo boxes. The main concerns are the roof rack crossbars and rear hatch clearance. The Yakima Skybox NX 16, # Y95AV, will fit on virtually any roof rack, so this shouldn't be a concern unless you have a significantly larger aftermarket roof rack. The SkyBox NV 16 will fit crossbars up to 3-1/2 inches wide by 1-11/16 inches tall.

Since roof cargo boxes are not tested on specific vehicles, the best way to answer the question about rear hatch clearance is measure.

If you have a factory roof rack or an adjustable aftermarket roof rack, move the front crossbar as far forward as possible. Next, measure from the center of the front crossbar back to the gap between your roof and your rear hatch (see photo). If this dimension is 47 inches or longer, then the SkyBox NX 16 will allow your rear hatch to completely open.
