How Can I Tow My 2002 Chevrolet Tracker at Night Without the Use of Automatic Headlights

Question:

I have a 2002 chev tracker hooked up to my motor as a toad. I have automatic headlights on the tracker. I was told by the installer not to run at night because the tail lights do not work with automatic headlights unless the ignition is in the second on position at which time the headlights would also come on quickly running down the battery. Is there anything I can do to make this work without having the headlights on? All other lights work including turn signals and brakes even at night.

If the Automatic Headlights are the issue, then you could remove the fuses that control the headlights on your 2002 Chevrolet Tracker. I looked up the owner's manual for your vehicle and found the headlight fuses are located in slot 3 and 4 of the fuse box that is located in the engine compartment. You will just have to remember to re-install the fuses in your Tracker when it is not connected to your motorhome.

If your Tracker was wired correctly for flat towing, then driving at night should not be a problem when flat towing the vehicle or dinghy.

Most flat towing applications are wired to connect between the motorhome and the dinghy. The wiring harnesses and diode kits that are used allow the tail, turn, and brake lights to act independently from the dinghy's wiring. In situations where the dinghy's electrical system could interfere with the flat towing electrical, a fuse on the dinghy is removed or a fuse cutoff is wired in to eliminate the issue.
