Question:

I have a 2017 chevy suburban. I am going to add the standard GM cross bars to the factory roof rack rails. I have an old Thule Alpine box, same as shown in the attached photo this photo was actually taken from your site. It has the square u-bolts that attach to the Thule square rails. Is there a Thule kit that I can buy that will allow me to attach this box to the factory cross bars? I am willing to drill holes in the box if needed. Also, the gas struts that hold the box open have failed. The Thule dual strut replacement that you had recommended to someone else part number 14933, I think will not fit because the attachement balls on the box and lid are not located such that they would line up with the attachment points on these struts. Is there another option? Are replacement struts not available from Thule or perhaps their former supplier? I am trying to avoid spending $500 to replace the box since it is in perfect condition except for the struts and the mounting issue. Thanks in advance.

To mount your older Thule Alpine Cargo Box onto the factory crossbars of the 2017 Chevrolet Suburban you can use the Replacement QM3 Hardware # TH04997. You will need to drill some new holes in the cargo box but the QM3 includes stick on hole covers for the old holes.

The correct Replacement Lid Lifter Hinge is # TH14936.

I have the same carrier my dad is giving me, to put on a 2024 Ford Bronco with factory roof rack. Same hardware replacement kit needed?

@BrianC Hello Brian! Yes, the # TH04997 is going to get your new to you Thule cargo box on your 2024 Ford Bronco with factory roof rack like the Alpine is brand new! If your Dad has another one laying around that he doesn't want, please tell him that Kate at etrailer is interested. I love the look of this one so much more than the newer ones.

@KateF I know it’s been a year since your response, but I have a follow up question ?? Would the same adapter kit for the Thule you referenced above also work to let us use the same carrier on a 2026 Chevy Traverse?

@BrianC Hello Brian a year later. Yes, the # TH04997 will also work with the 2026. It will work with all normal size crossbars, so just as long as you aren't going with the big heavy duty crossbars you are good to go.
