I have heard that the bracket will contact the inner tire and is not a good fit. Is this true?

You can take a quick measurement to determine if the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs, part # F2071 will work for you.
Measure from the frame rail to the inside edge of the inner tire. If you have more than 7-1/2 inches of clearance, the # F2071 kit will work for you. If there is less than 7-1/2 inches, the bracket will rub the inner surface of the tire and cause a failure.
