Recommended 5th Wheel Rail Kit and Hitch for a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 w/ a Short Bed
Published 10/12/2016 >
Question:
i just bought a used 2012 Keystone Copper Canyon model 252fwrls. roughly 7200 lbs dry and 1320 pin weight dry. It came with a Reese PRO series 15K hitch, non slider that was on a 2014 66inch box ford F250. My vehicle is a standard box66 2016 Chevy 2500HD. The old owner said he had no problem not using a slider hitch. Do i need one? What Rail kit do I need if i keep the non slider Reese Pro? What do I need if I want to change if you say i really need a slider? He also gave me the rails but they dont look like they fit my Chevy. Are the rail the same and I just need a different hardware kit? how do you suggest I proceed with this?

Since you already have a fifth wheel hitch that could possibly work what I would do is first install a rail kit confirmed to fit your 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500 like the Reese custom install kit part # RP56001-53 and then try the Reese hitch you have to see if you need more clearance. There is a very high probability that you will need a slider hitch though as it is very uncommon that a short bed truck can get away with a stationary hitch. We are aware that the nose of your trailer does allow for improved turning clearance though.
I would go with the Curt A20 part # C16541 if you do need a slider hitch. This hitch has an excellent jaw design that stops movement in the hitch head and a round tube slider that will operate smoother than a square tube.
