Sway Bar and Steering Stabilizer Recommendation for 2017 Thor Ace 30.2 F-53 Chassis

Published 10/11/2016

Question:

Hi, Just recently purchased a 2017 Thor Ace 30.2, on a F-53 chassis. I was interested on your sway bar RM-RBK9-RSSA and wanted to know if it will fit and if it will help on handling. Also, I wanted to tow a small car Fiat 500 and was looking for towing packages tow bar, brakes, lights etc.. Please inform what products to look at the RV can tow up to 8,000lbs, but the FIAT is no more than 3,000lbs. Looking forward to your advice. Thank you,

For your 2017 Thor Ace that is built on a 2016 Ford F-53 chassis rear sway bar upgrades are a great way to make a notoriously difficult to drive vehicle much easier to drive. For that you would want the # RM-1139-143 this will give you the biggest improvement in overall handling. A steering stabilizer like what you referenced # RM-RBK9-RSSA will help as well but we recommend typically to start with the rear sway bar.

I would need to know what year/make/model of vehicle you plan to flat tow, to pick out the base plate kit but I can help you pick out everything else right now.

One of the best tow bars is the Blue Ox Avail part # BX7420 as it is easiest to connect/disconnect and comes with safety cables.

For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-15267, and not have to worry about cutting into the taillight housing. This will splice into your taillight wiring to allow your tow vehicle to control the taillight assemblies of the towed vehicle. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Most likely you will also need a high low adapter so that the tow bar will be level when you are flat towing. I attached a link to a page that has all of the ones we carry.

I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.
