Are the step pads in a recess or a cut out. I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500, extended cab. Will these work or can you recommend something else.

The Aries Nerf bars part # AA205002 are not a fit for your 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 since they are designed for regular cab trucks and you have an extended cab.
The most similar set we have that are a fit is the part # 25-0685 which has cut outs for where the step pads install.
