Could Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit Fold Winch Mast With Coupler
Question:
Does it matter which side of the trailer winch mast base that I place the 3foot x 3inch fold away trailer coupler model FHDPB330301? Originally I was going to place the coupler at a distance of about 24inch from the trailer ball which placed the coupler outside the base for the winch mast. However, my garage is tight space-wise and it didnt leave much room to walk in the garage behind the boat. I re-measured everything and found if I place the coupler about 32inch from the trailer ball within the winch mast base area it freed up another 12inch of space behind the trailer. I am still within the trailer coupler weight specs. for my trailer and boat at 32. The only thing is that trailer tongue, winch, and mast will now fold away if I go this route. Is this acceptable from a weight and support perspective for the coupler?

Helpful Expert Reply:
As long as the winch mast folding doesn't interfere in any way with your boat being secured to your boat trailer there's no reason it couldn't fold too. The capacity of the hinge at 32 inches is going to be right at 3,800 lbs total weight and 380 lbs tongue weight so you would need to keep that in mind as well.
