Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 900 lb Tongue Weight Trailer

Published 08/31/2016

Question:

I am looking for a w/d hitch for my 30foot 2015 FR Wildwood 28DBUD. The GVWR is 7805 and the TW is about 900. Im towing with a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel quad cab long bed 8ft truck. I currently use an Andersen no sway no bounce hitch and it performs pretty well overall and is easy to use. I have no sway issues with it and it tows really nicely on smooth pavement. However when driving on rough roads, Im getting a lot of porpoising that can get really uncomfortable after a while. Ive asked on RV forums and the consensus seems to be that with my setup, the Andersen simply cant return enough weight to the front axle. That hasnt created any other issues truck sits level, handles great, no loss of steering or braking but it might be responsible for the porpoising. Im hoping that you can suggest a good replacement that would work well for my setup and improve the ride. Im looking at the Reese DC, Equal-i-zer and the Blue Ox Sway Pro. Based on what Ive read so far, Im really leaning toward the latter. Just wondering if you agree that being unable to return sufficient weight to the steer axle with the Andersen could be causing the porpoising. Also would like to know if you think the Blue Ox is a good choice for me and if it would compare favorably with the Equal-i-zer and Reese DC. All 3 seem to have excellent reviews on your website. Thank you in advance for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.

My favorite weight distribution system to recommend is the Reese Dual Cam because of how well it works, because it has the only sway control on the market that works to fight sway before it starts, and because it is the only system that uses spring-steel for the spring bars which means the system works well but doesn't ride harsh.

For that you would want the part # RP66084 which has a tongue weight range of 600 to 1,200 lbs which would be perfect for your 900 lbs of trailer tongue weight.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
