Question:
What is the best way to attach this to the side of a fiberglass trailer? Other than making sure there are no wires or pipes in the way, what other things need to be considered ?

You will want to make sure that you have proper support behind the fiberglass location you plan on mounting this rail too. I was able to go out to the warehouse and find that on the product Camco recommends this product be installed by a qualified RV dealer. I have attached an image of the tag for you to better see the details.
It states: This mounting strip WILL NOT support the weight of the grill or other devices if only screwed into the skin of the RV. It may be attached to the skin of the RV only if adequate support structure ( to support grill or other ) is behind the skin. In some cases a backing plate will be required. Car must be taken to not penetrate hidden gas, electrical, fresh water or waste lines when mounting. Care must also be taken to not drill/screw through the interior wall of the RV.
I have linked the mounting rail to this page for your convenience.
