We have a hitch that will work well for your 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI, but the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11311 not confirmed to fit any model year of the Golf GTI/GTI. This hitch is currently confirmed to fit 2013 - 2015 Cadillac ATS and 2016 - 2019 Cadillac ATS excluding ATS-V.

For a hitch that is confirmed to fit your Golf GTI, you will want the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11412. The installation instructions and an installation video of this hitch on a similar GTI as yours are both attached for you. This trailer hitch features a 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch receiver.

If you plan on carrying any non-trailer loads such as bike racks or cargo carriers, you will want to use a stabilization strap # 18050 in order to comply with the warranty for this hitch. It is also important to note that Class I trailer hitches are limited to carrying 2 bikes on a hitch mounted bike rack.
