Recommended Roof Rack for a 2008 Kia Sorento to Carry a Kayak

Question:

Would this SR1098 crossbar work for a 45 lb kayak and does it fit the horizontal length across the suv of about 3 feet?

Expert Reply:

The SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack # SR1098 will be able to carry your 45 lb. Kayak and will fit a 3' roof. However, I do not recommend the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack for your 2008 Kia Sorento as a semi-custom roof rack will not fit your vehicle as well as a custom roof rack. For a load like a kayak we find that a custom fit rack will provide a much more secure foundation.

If you have factory side rails that run front to back, I recommend the Inno Square Crossbars consisting of the 42" Crossbars # INB107 and the Feet # INFR. This roof rack can carry your Kayak and will be able to fit a 3' spread on your vehicle. If you have factory installed tracks running front to back, the same Inno Square Cossbars and Feet will work but you will also need the Inno Custom Fit Kit # INTR501. You will still be able to carry your Kayak when adding the fit kit.

If you have a naked roof, I recommend the Inno Crossbars for Naked Roofs consisting of the 54" Crossbars # INB137, the Inno Feet # INSUT and the Inno Fit Kit # INK254. This roof rack will be able to hold your 45 lb. Kayak and meet your 3' spread.

To easily carry your Kayak on top of your roof, I recommend the Swagman Contour Rooftop Kayak Carrier System # S65148. This J-Style Carrier will secure your kayak in place as you drive and keep your kayak from scratching your roof rack. This carrier will fit on the Inno Roof Racks and SportsRack Roof Rack and will be able to carry your 45 lb. kayak.

I have attached review videos for the Swagman Kayak Carrier and the Inno Square Roof Racks you may want to check out. I also attached installation instructions for the Kayak Carrier you may find helpful.
