Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2013 Toyota Prius Carrying Carbon Frame Bikes

Updated 07/20/2020 | Published 06/09/2016

Question:

I was going to buy the Swagman XTC rack per your sites recommendation, but a few of our bikes are carbon-fiber and this kuat is recommended for that. Will the Kuat Transfer V2 rack work OK with the 2013 toyota prius with the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4inch - 24847 that I am purchasing here as well?

The Kuat Transfer V2 # KU74FR would be a perfect solution for you. It is Class I hitch compatible so it will work with the the Draw-Tite # 24847 on your 2013 Prius. Since it only grabs the bike at the tires it would not touch your carbon fiber frame bikes either.

I have a 2016 Mazda6 with a Draw-Tite (#24908) hitch which as 6 1/4" from center of hitch pin to rear bumper. Will the Swagman Semi 2.0 Platform Rack fit on my vehicle (have enough clearance between the rear bumper and the closest part of the rack) without it hitting the vehicle? The 6 1/4" clearance of giving me problems & unfortunately limiting my rack options. A appreciate your help in clarifying this. If this rack does not fit could you suggest platform alternatives?

The Swagman Semi 2.0 # S64686 will actually work great on your Mazda 6. On the rack there's a distance of 15-1/4" between the center of the hitch pin hole and closest part of the carrier when it's down for use. When folded up against the vehicle this distance is 8" - so with either the rack down or folded up you'll have enough clearance to avoid any bumper contact.
