You are correct, this wiring harness # C56157 does not need to connect to the car battery, confirmed by Curt and the installation instructions for this wiring harness. This harness draws power directly from the vehicle taillight circuits and plugs right into your 2013 Kia Rio's taillights. The installation process for this wiring harness is quick and easy. I have attached the installation instructions for this harness for you to check out.
If you are also looking for a trailer hitch for your 2013 Kia Rio, I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Hitch # 24883. This hitch is confirmed to fit your 5-Door Hatchback by Draw-Tite and has bold-on installation, no welding is required. it is made from corrosion-resistant steel to ensure strength and durability when in use. The maximum gross trailer weight for this hitch is 2,000 lbs. and has a maximum tongue weight of 200 lbs.
To complete your towing set up you will also need a ball mount, hitch pin and hitch ball. I recommend ball mount # 3593, pin and clip # PC2 1-7/8 inch ball # 19256 or 2 inch ball # 19258.
