Do All Wires Have To Be Used On 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector
Question:
I have a question about the adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector. Do the extra wires for brake controller etc. need to be used? Or can I just plug the 4 way from my vehicle into the adapter? Thanks.

It sounds like you have a 7-way connector on your trailer and a 4-way connector on your vehicle.
If you plug an adapter like part # 30717 into your vehicle 4-way, you will only have the 4 functions on the 7-way connector. You will need to make sure the pins on the 7-way are correct for the functions you need. If all you want is the lighting functions, you can cap off the wires that are not needed.
I have attached a helpful article that has a chart for wiring connectors. I also attached a couple photos that show the 7-way wiring connectors for both the vehicle and the trailer. You can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to make sure the wires match on both the trailer and vehicle.
