Question:
I have a 2008 KIA Rondo that is going to seem ore use in the mountains - passes with occasional compact snow and ice and rural mixed snow and ice. 225/50-17 tires. Clearance is an issue - manual says S, but there really isnt much room. Normally snow tires work fine, but when its bad its bad.

The best Class S compatible tire chain I would recommend for your 2008 Kia Rondo is the Titan # TC335DC diagonal cable snow gtire chains. Since you have limited clearance these would be the best choice, and their diamon design improves cornering.
I have also included a link with other S-compatible chains that have a more aggresive grip if you think you have room for them.
If you will regularlily need chains you may want the Thule # TH04115100 "Easy Fit" chains with Self-Tensioning adjusters. These will also last longer than cable style snow chains.
