Installing and Using a Lube Plate Instead of Grease on a 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
Published 07/22/2010 >
Question:
I am new to towing. I just bought a lube plate. How do you use it? How does it get attached? Do I still use some amount of grease with the lube plate?

Using a lube plate is very simple. Simply slide it over the king pin on the trailer before hitching up. The lube plate prevents metal to metal contact of the king pin on the head unit of the fifth wheel hitch making hitching up easier. No grease is required if you are using a lube plate.
The 12 inch diameter plate is intended for use with 20K hitches or Reese Elite or Signature Series Fifth Wheel hitches. If your hitch is not an Elite or Signature Series and has a capacity less than 20K, a 10 inch diameter lube plate like part # RP83002 should be used.
