Expert Reply:
The Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit, # 492-1, will have two brackets that will attach to the vehicle frame. One on the drivers side and the other on the passenger side. It gives two attachment points for a tow bar to connect to.
When towing, the towed vehicles weight should not exceed 40 percent of the towing vehicles weight. The towed vehicle will be in neutral and the steering wheel must be unlocked.
Check the vehicle manufacturers instructions for the proper procedures to prepare the vehicle for towing. Some vehicles must be equipped with a transmission lube pump, an axle disconnect, driveline disconnect or free-wheeling hubs before they can be towed.
Here are the parts you will need to tow your 1997 Ford F150/F250.
