Recommended Fittings To Install Remote Transmission Filter Kit On 2005 Ford F-150 With 5.4L Motor

Updated 09/23/2015 | Published 09/22/2015

Question:

I HAVE A 2005 FORD F150 4X4 WITH THE 5.4 ENGINE AND AS A FACTORY OPTION IT HAS THE TRAILER TOWING PACKAGE. THE INPUT TRANSMISSION LINE TO THE OIL COOLER IS 3/8 NOT A 5/16 LINE. WHAT ARE THE ADAPTERS SIZES DO I NEED IN ORDER TO INSTALL THE OIL COOLER TRANSMISSION KIT TO THE VEHICLE? THEY ARE NOT THE 5/8 X 18 NOR THE 1/2 X 20 THE LINE MALE END THAT SCREWS INTO THE OIL COOLER IS ALMOST AN INCH IN DIA. IT MICKED TO .9825. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THIS TRANSMISSION KIT INSTALLED ON THE TRUCK WITHOUT HAVING TO CUT INTO THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER LINES. IS THERE A WAY TO DO THAT? PLEASE ADVISE. THANKS,

I called my contact at Derale and asked about the transmission lines you said you have on your F-150.

They said they do not have any fittings that would be nearly an inch in size as you described. They told me that if the lines you have are 3/8 inch, and if the Insta-dapt Adapter included with the # D13090 will not work then you would need to cut the line and use a compression fitting like part # D13032. You could use two of these and splice into the line coming from the transmission to the remote filter and another for the line going from the remote filter to the radiator. I have attached a drawing that shows how you would splice into the lines.
