Can the Yakima Holdup Fit a 29 inch Bike Wheel
Updated 10/01/2025 | Published 09/17/2015 >
Question:
I own a Yakima Hold up 2inch rack. I recently purchased a Trek 29 plus bike and the bar that fits over the front tire will not fit over the tire because ofthe larger diameter. Does Yakima make an extension kit for fat tire bikes?

The Yakima Holdup part # Y02443 that you referenced is designed to fit wheels that are between 14 and 29 inches in diameter. There isn't an adapter available to allow the rack to fit larger tires, but you can try deflating the tires a bit to see if you can get them to get small enough to fit the rack.

The back part of the front tire holder on the YAkima Hold Up bike rack is tilted at such an angle that a 29 inch tire wont sit down in the tire holder. Is there an after-market part with a lower angle that will allow the tire to sit securely in the holder?

I found that I could make a 29 x 2.5 tire fit by doing the following. It was simple, quick, and it hasn't degraded the integrity of the bike rack. - remove the 'hook' that you pull over the front wheel (find the silver pin, remove the C clip, pull out the pin and slide off the 'hook' assembly) - take a grinder to remove some of the plastic material to allow the 'hook' assembly to slide up further on the arm - reinstall
