Trunk Mounted Three Bike Rack Recommendations for 2007 Mazda 3 w/ Spoiler

Question:

I have a 2007 Mazda 6 with a spoiler. Do you have a bike rack for three bikes that will fit my car. I looked it up on your make/model search, but not sure if the 6 had a spoiler. thanks

We do indeed offer some trunk mounted bike racks that would be compatible with your 2007 Mazda 6 equipped with a spoiler. The Saris Bones is a nice bike rack, but I don't care for the small feet, which concentrate the weight of the rack and bikes on a small area of the trunk lid. This can cause denting.

If it's a Sedan and not a Hatchback model, a good entry-level choice would be the Thule Passage, part # TH911XT. The rack's not long on frills, but the adjustable fit dial helps tailor the fit of the rack perfectly to your vehicle. The heavily padded feet do a good job of cushioning your vehicle, spreading out the load that's distributed to the trunk lid over a larger area.

A good mid-grade option would be the Thule Gateway Pro 3 bike model, part # TH78VR. The rack is specially designed to fit over factory spoilers, and includes a cable lock to secure the bikes to the rack.

The best option would be the Thule OutWay, part # TH56BV. The OutWay is the easiest to use trunk mount bike rack I've ever encountered. Instead of the clumsy 4-6 strap and buckle arrangement that needs to be adjusted each time the rack is installed or removed, theOutWay uses 2 retractable plastic coated steel cables that allow the rack to be installed or removed in seconds. The cables are lockable, and the rack provides a cable lock.

For a hatchback model, I'd recommend the Hollywood Racks Over-The-Top, part # HRF2-3. The rack has extra legs that prevent all the weight of the bikes and the rack from sitting on the rear windshield.

Any of the racks I mentioned above will work IF your spoiler is a factory, and not an aftermarket spoiler.

If you'll be transporting women's bikes or bikes with sharply-angled top tubes, you might also consider a frame adapter bar like part # 64005. The bar spans the distance between the handlebar gooseneck and the seat post, which provides a secondary attachment point for the bike rack. This allows the bike to be carried level, which maximizes ground clearance. I'll link you to a video showing how the adapter bar works.
