Realigning Axle-less Trailer Suspension on Motorcycle Trailer
Updated 08/28/2015 | Published 08/27/2015 >
Question:
I have a motorcycle trailer that is wearing out sets of tires in less than 2000 miles. It appears that the brackets that hold the hubs are mis-aligned on both vertical and forward-directional orientation. It has axle-less, rubber torsion mounting hubs bolted to brackets that are welded to each side. There is NO axle! If I remove the brackets for the axle-less hubs do you have an axle with hubs 5-bolt that will fit on a 27inch wide trailer frame with 155/80 R12 tires. Total weight of trailer and contents normally under 500 pounds. Thanks

I recommend checking the alignment of your spindles before purchasing a new axle. Unless there is something wrong with the system itself, it may only need to be realigned.
An easy way to check the alignment at home is to measure from the end of the spindle to the centerline of the trailer at the coupler. I have attached a diagram showing this measurement for you.
A trailer shop, or other fabrication shop, should be able to help you re-align the trailer by removing and repositioning the axle-less suspension.
We do not carry an axle small enough for your motorcycle trailer. To get an axle that small, you may need to custom order one locally.
