Question:
Interested in C13550 hitch for my 04 explorer. My trailer is an enclosed 6x12 with a coupler height of 13.5inch and my current receiver is 21.25. Research shows that if I get the class 2 ball mount with 6inch TW s to 200lbs and totla towing down to 2k lbs. So i figure I need to upgrade to class 3 hitch. How much of a will this hitch be at if under oem hitch? And which ball mount would you suggest using that number? Thanks

The recommended ball mount for use with Curt Class III hitch # C13550 is their Class III ball mount # C45030 which provides either 1-inch of rise or 2-1/4-inches of drop. Since your trailer coupler height and Explorer hitch ball height are different then you can choose a different ball mount with the correct amount of drop to keep your trailer level when hitched. However, you need to use a Class III ball mount in the Curt Class III hitch.
Once you have the hitch installed you can measure the height difference between the hitch and coupler and select a suitable ball mount. The linked article explains how to take this simple measurement and the linked page to Class III ball mounts will let you choose the correct one. We have not yet installed this hitch on your vehicle so we cannot tell you its exact height once mounted.
We do also offer adjustable ball mounts like # TK5007 which make it easy to keep vehicles and trailers level when hitched.
