Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for a 2010 Nissan Xterra

Updated 08/11/2015 | Published 08/10/2015

Question:

I have a 2010 Nissan Xterra that I would like to get a tow hitch for. I am looking at the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2. What I am planning on towing is two dirt bikes, but with a carrier rather than a trailer. Difference being that the carrier does not touch the ground. Both bikes together weight about 450 pound plus the carrier so somewhere around 550 pounds. I wanted to make sure this hitch could handle that weight before I purchased it. Thanks.

The trailer hitch we offer for your 2010 Nissan Xterra that has the highest tongue weight capacity (vertical unsupported weight capacity) would be the Curt hitch part # 13514. This hitch only has a tongue weight capacity of 400 lbs though. That means that the weight of your motorcycles and carrier would have to weigh under 400 lbs.

To carry both dirt bikes would require you to use a trailer.

If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

For trailer wiring part # C56225.
