Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights and Brake Output Circuit Not Functioning on Trailer

Question:

I have a 98 Dodge Ram 3500 I have the towing package I plugged in the wires into the connector under the dash next to the steering column I only have lights when I press the brake pedal or turn signal I do not have brakes or running lights

It sounds like you have a dirty trailer wiring connector on either your trailer or truck that is preventing a couple of your trailer functions from working properly. Inspect and clean both of the connectors. It sounds like the brake output circuit and the running light circuit just aren't making a decent enough connection to function properly.
