Hitch and Wiring Harness for 2008 Saturn Vue Hybrid

Updated 05/25/2010 | Published 05/22/2010

Question:

I want to put a trailer hitch on a 2008 Saturn Hybrid Vue and when I talk to local installers they are concerned about getting the wiring done correctly or will not do it because it is a hybrid vechicle. Do you see any concern with doing this and what are the correct parts I need to order to do this? Is there a valid reason not to put a hitch on the Saturn Hybrid? My other option is a 2008 Nissan Versa but I would rather have the higher towing capability.

In my research, several sources cite a 3500 lb towing capacity for the 2008 Saturn Vue Hybrid. As long as you do not exceed this figure, I would feel comfortable towing with the vehicle. You do not mention which hitch you were interested in. I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Receiver, part # 75556. The hitch itself is rated for 4000 lbs, but you will still be limited by the 3500 lb vehicle rating. If you choose the class III hitch over the class II, you will have a better selection of available accessories, such as cargo carriers or bike racks.

The Curt Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # C56026 attaches inline with the wiring located behind the taillight assemblies and draws its power from the battery, just like the non-hybrid model. This harness is recommended for all models of the 2008 Vue, including the Hybrid. I have heard of no problems or issues using this wiring harness on hybrids.

I will provide a link to the wiring harness install instructions for you to look over, as well as a link to the hitch that I have recommended. You can find the links below.

You do not mention if you will need a ball mount or a trailer ball, so I have supplied links to those as well.
